An England call-up for Albion ace Bobby Zamora has been marred by a misunderstanding over his availability.
The 31-goal star seems certain to withdraw from the under-20 squad to play Portugal in Amadora next Wednesday.
Zamora is currently sidelined by a dislocated shoulder. Albion do not expect him to play again until the final home game of the season against Swindon.
Zamora, 21, has been named in Les Reed's squad as an over-age player, along with Aston Villa's Peter Crouch.
Albion boss Peter Taylor is puzzled by his inclusion. "I am delighted for Bobby but a little bit surprised," said Taylor.
"Firstly he is injured and secondly I spoke with the FA last month when they wanted him for the match with Norway.
"They accepted he had a part to play here and it was my understanding they would not select him until the season finished."
