Nick Nurse has called on fans to pack the Triangle and roar Brighton Bears to a historic title.

Bears need victory at home to newly-crowned northern conference champions Chester Jets tonight (7pm) to retain hopes of topping the southern section.

They close the regular season by tackling Birmingham Bullets tomorrow (5pm), again at Burgess Hill, while long-time leaders London Towers host play-off qualifiers Leopards at Crystal Palace.

Bears, perennial wooden spoonists before Nurse's arrival last summer, need to win both their games and hope Towers slip-up if they are to claim top spot.

It would be the first time in BBL history a team had gone from rock bottom to top of the pile and would complete a hat-trick for Nurse, who has led Towers and Manchester to conference titles in the last two seasons.

The Brighton coach declared: "We want to go from worst to first.

"It's great to be in this position. I don't think I could have envisaged something like this happening so quickly when I came here."

Bears kept themselves in the hunt with a thrilling 82-77 win at Milton Keynes on Thursday, having trailed 55-41 when the hosts' Andrew Alleyne hit a three-pointer early in the third quarter.

At the same time, Sheffield were suffering a shock defeat at Edinburgh, which left Chester assured of top spot in the northern conference.

Bears hope that could work in their favour when coach Robbie Peers heads to Sussex with a side who have already secured the trophy and knockout cup.

Nurse said: "We will be thinking about a gameplan and we will be aggressive.

"They will come here trying to win for psychological reasons. They know we might see them again in the play-offs and they don't want to let us have confidence.

"The only reason I can see for them not going all out to win would be if they were protecting some injuries, which they might be.

"They are both very good teams. Chester are extremely talented and Birmingham play us very well and are fighting for their play-off position.

"We are excited but we need some help.

"We need people to get to the Triangle and forget about their Easter plans.

Maybe they will see us win a piece of silverware.

"I think we deserve to win it. I have told my guys I have thought they are the best team in the south for a long time."

Bears are capable of playing some of the most attractive basketball in the British League and much may depend on whether Albert White has a good weekend.

He picked up 27 points and 12 rebounds at Milton Keynes, then said: "Every game is like a play-off now. We need to take it a game at a time, keep playing good defence and just let our offence come.

"Hopefully Chester being northern champions already will work in our favour. We really need to win and will be coming out to give it 110 percent."

Tickets will be available on the day but fans are advised to arrive at last 30 minutes before tip-off.

Admission costs £8 (adults), £5 (concessions) or £20 (family ticket).
