Businessman David Summers flew 3,000 miles just to get his hair cut - but he still had to sit in the queue.

He was so cut up when his favourite hairdresser left his homeland on the Mid Atlantic island of Bermuda, he longed for her golden touch.

After 16 years of having his hair trimmed by Deborah Silver, who cut his locks just the way he liked, David was left to comb the island for a new hairdresser but no one came close.

Six years later, he has tracked down Deborah, who has just opened her own salon in Hove, and flew 3,000 miles so she could work her wonders once more.

Despite the epic journey, David, 58, was still made to wait his turn.

David, a planning consultant, said: "Her hands and scissor-work are as good as they ever were - but I have a bit more white hair now.

"Now I am starting to lose it, every strand is important and I know Deborah does it absolutely right.

"It is certainly a bespoke hair cut worth flying the Atlantic for.

"I have been suffering other people cutting my hair for six years and I decided to get it cut properly.

"There was no other reason for me coming."

David also managed to squeeze in a bit of sightseeing since his arrival last Wednesday before heading off again.

Before jetting out from Gatwick, he said: "I will have to time my next visit to Britain according to when I need a hair cut.

"Now I know where she is, I'll be telling other people in Bermuda where to find her."

Deborah, who is British, lived in Bermuda for 17 years.

She then worked in barbers' shops in London and Brighton before opening the City Barbers shop on Portland Road in January.

Although business had risen steadily, she said she had not had any clients come quite as far as David.

She said: "David phoned me first for directions and I was shocked when I heard from him.

"He said it was a voice from the past but I have to admit I didn't recognise him at first. When I realised who it was, I was very excited."
