Roy Hilliard's attempt (Letters, March 20) to blame the Government for the incident in which someone bit off a man's ear is symptomatic of the increasing frustration of Conservatives.

They are frustrated because never before has a successful Labour government been elected for a second full term and because we continue to see unemployment, inflation and crime levels falling.

They are frustrated because the Tory Party, a once great party of government, ruined itself on the rack of two decades of Thatcherite greed and selfishness that is, if anything, responsible for the bad attitudes and behaviour of some in our society today.

Mrs Thatcher, of course, famously said there was "no such thing" as society.

The Conservatives can now offer only reactionary rage rather than positive and constructive opposition.
