Brighton College and Burgess Hill School for Girls went into this weekend's national netball finals boosted by Sussex Schools Knockout Cup triumphs.

The College completed a county double when the under-13s defeated Mayfield 28-15 in the final. It followed the success of the under-19s in a competition that was run on a league basis.

They were 11-10 down at the interval against skilled opponents but fine shooting from captain Katy Czajkowski and Lucy Mitchell, supported by precise passing from Harriet Broun and Tiffany Clark, enabled them to enter the final quarter 21-15 ahead. Defenders Lacey Marchant, Josephine Eleini, Anjli Majevadia and Verity Carr impressed, particularly in the final quarter.

The College reached the finals with victories over Downlands, Farlington, Handcross Park and Imberhorne.

Runners-up to the under-19s were Imberhorne (East Grinstead) who are also West Sussex Schools champions.

Burgess Hill under-16s, who are also in the national finals in Manchester, completed a hat-trick at the Triangle.

They beat Millais (Horsham) 37-28 to add to triumphs at under-14s in 2000 and under-15s last year.

Burgess Hill: Rosie Walkington, Georgina Lucy, Danielle Samson, Ellie Robinson, Felicity Paul, Sophie Blackmur, Laura Coughlan.

Towers under-14s, dominant in their age group this season, underlined their strength by defeating Burgess Hill 22-16 in their county final.

Coach Elaine Goldsmith said: "They have won five events this season. Some of them showed their versatility because they also managed to win a gymnastics competition this week."

Towers: Nadine Kenny, Victoria Noble, Becky Spells, Nana Totoe, Caroline Sprey, Fiona Bailey, Candice Payne.

Brighton and Hove High pipped Imberhorne (East Grinstead) 32-29 in the under-15s final.

The Cup tournaments involved an estimated 1,500 competitors from 35 teams in the five groups.

Towers under-14s claimed the Sussex Independent Schools Rally on their own courts. They pipped Roedean on golden goal.

Brighton College won the under-16s with Burgess Hill runners-up. The under-13s, under-15s and under-18s events at Falmer were cancelled.
