Burgess Hill Town Council's Help Point is a nationally recognised establishment.

We have developed over the past six years into an extremely successful Help Point and Tourist Information Centre.

The problem with success is it can sometime take you by surprise and understanding this is the key to this issue.

We installed a counter with two workstations, in the front office of the Help Point when we opened in November 1996 - Paddy Ashdown MP opened it for us and wished us luck.

The Tourism side of the Help Point was so successful, we needed a desk dedicated to the purpose, so we put a free-standing one in the window. We did this last May as a trial measure to see if it worked.

Unfortunately, we did not anticipate the effect the sun would have on the working conditions there (March 11).

This is what we have now resolved. The decision was taken on real issues that affect our town and the people who live and work here.

How right Prince Charles is. Let us have some useful, informative and positive reporting in future, instead of critical muck-stirring.
