I am sorry John Parry was moved to write such a disparaging piece on the work chosen to open the Brighton Dome (March 8).
I started to learn the cello as a retirement project and never in my wildest dreams imagined did I think I would have the opportunity to work with, and have instruction from, members of the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
It was an inspiration and great learning occasion for me and an amazing opportunity for the young people taking part.
I was amazed at the stamina and ability they displayed.
I am encouraged to see gifted musicians and arts folk giving time and sharing talent with those of us who are learning.
The joy of making music and expressing ourselves in song and theatre helps to counteract the multitude of negative influences we all have to cope with.
We have learned to appreciate the hard work and dedication that goes on in the entertainment world and many of us will be going back and taking our friends. We will never forget how special that day was.
