Community campaigner Peter Gatt is calling for more police on the beat after a teenager was attacked in Lower Bevendean.
The 16-year-old boy suffered cuts to the head when he was assaulted with a broken bottle on Saturday night in The Avenue.
Mr Gatt, chairman of the Freshfield Tenants' Association, said: "This lad was just chatting with a couple of his friends when he was attacked. They had to rush him to hospital."
Mr Gatt said Saturday night's incident was the latest in a rising trend of violent crime among teenagers living in the area.
He said: "Areas like Whitehawk and Moulsecoomb have got all this money from the Government but there's nothing for the youngsters to do here and they're getting into trouble.
"The only time you see a PC up here is when they come with their blue folders to deliver summonses.
"We never see a local beat policeman. The situation is becoming diabolical."
