Rye and Iden United look favourites for the County League Division Two title after crushing runaway league leaders Shoreham 5-1.

Shoreham were 15 points clear at the start of play but with six games in hand, Rye must fancy their chances after this crushing win.

This was one of only three games in the county to go ahead due to the bad weather but it could have a huge bearing on the race to reach the top flight of Sussex soccer.

Rye assistant-manager Kevin Greenland said: "We adapted to the conditions a lot better than Shoreham and we were a lot hungrier.

"The lads felt they had a lot to prove after they beat us down there earlier in the season."

Keith Miles scored twice with Shaun Loft, Scott Price and Dean Chamberlain also on target. Darren Annis hit a late consolation for the visitors.

Greenland added: "It puts us favourites. We have still got six games in hand and we are a dozen points behind, so it is all to play for.

"What we have got to do is win our games in hand."

Paul Young scored a late equaliser, his 25th of the season, as Broadbridge Heath drew 3-3 at Seaford.

The home side thought they had pinched maximum points when Barry Knight put them ahead on 89 minutes but Young replied instantly to ensure a share of the points.

John Snelgrove fired Seaford into an 11th minute lead but the visitors replied through Paul Gallagher on 22 minutes and then went 2-1 ahead five minutes later through Young.

Youngster Chris Stanyard drew the hosts level seven minutes before the interval and it looked like staying that way until the late goals. Seaford boss Duncan Kneller said: "We got out of jail and then threw it away again but it was a fair result. "If it had finished 2-2 it would have been a fair result."
