I read with incredulity the comments of Martin Perry, CEO of Brighton and Hove Albion (The Argus, November 27), as he dismissed Waterhall as an alternative site because of "transport difficulties involving cash having to be spent on new roads".

Either he is saying he prefers the cheaper option of Falmer or he doesn't know Waterhall is surrounded by the A27 city by-pass and the A23 city-to-capital trunk road.

In the event he is unaware of the roads status around Waterhall, may I also point out that within the aforesaid road complex lies a railway line aside which could be built a halt for visiting fans to disembark without having to enter, cross or further exacerbate an already traffic-congested city.

Given that the Waterhall site has been, in recent times, the venue for under-19s international rugby matches and has a road and rail complex in situ, I really cannot understand why the Albion management in conjunction with the city planners want to further incur the wrath of city dwellers by digging up more of the South Downs.
