Lotus Challenge on the PlayStation 2 could be a worthwhile addition to your garage of driving games.

Lotus technicians were heavily-involved in the making of the game and the result is silky smooth and thoroughly realistic. Handling and control of the cars is sublime.

To begin the game, there is a choice of cars like the unmodified Elan and Elise which, by completing various stages and tasks, can be ultimately upgraded to Formula 1 machines.

Racing around narrow and winding British roads contrasts nicely with the experience of powering around the wide American tracks.

Although visually this game does not reach the lofty standard of GT3, the graphics are adequate and compensated for by the sheer driveability of the cars.

One of the best things is the steady learning curve.

Lotus Challenge is easy to pick up but you will need to improve your driving skills and knowledge of the tracks in order to progress.

You can jump in and drive the cars straight away but it takes time and practice to acquire the deft touches needed to win championships.

Another good feature is the stunt mode, where you can drive around a hazard-filled movie set, improving your skills and having great fun.

Although it is competing for pole position with the mighty Gran Turismo and up-and-coming racers like Burnout, Lotus Challenge's attention to detail means it holds its own .
