Texting addicts sent 1.2 billion messages last month, a ten percent rise on September.
The Mobile Data Association, which produced the figures, predicted texting would rise even further over the Christmas holidays.
In December last year, 756 million text messages were sent in Britain as people dumped traditional Christmas cards in favour of seasonal texting.
Since then, statistics have shown a steady rise.
British people now send 38 million texts every day, compared to 21 million a year ago.
The total number of text messages so far this year stands at 9.7 billion. It is estimated only ten per cent of the messages are work-related.
The peak hours for text messaging are between 10.30pm and 11.00pm.
