We have all seen collections of clip art and digital images and most of them are pretty horrible. But the Big Box of Art from Hemera is a definite cut above the rest.

With more than 350,000 images on 22 searchable CDs, complete with a nifty greetings card design package, this title offers a fantastic library of digital images for almost any occasion.

There are 180,000 vector clip art images that can be resized without losing resolution, more than 5,000 24-bit, full-colour (RGB), photo objects, which make a crisp alternative to clip-art and more than 20,000 full-colour professionally-shot photographs.

There are also more than 10,000 professional black and white photographs to enhance presentations and documents.

These are complemented by 2,000 textured photographs that appear to be almost three-dimensional.

My attention was caught by the huge number (103,000) of internet-ready web graphics (.GIF format web icons) that can be used to add lustre to dull web sites.

But I was horrified to discover 500 animated graphics, which will doubtless be used to irritate us for years to come.

I had a look at some of the 2,000 Photo-font textures, which can be used as backgrounds for documents or web sites.

These are often ignored in the rush to drop images on to a web site but they can add a great deal to its look and feel if used properly.

All in all, this great collection offers excellent value for money and a really smart way to start a graphics library.
