Horsham maintained fifth place in the league despite drawing 3-3 with Gillingham Anchorians.

A topsy-turvy game saw Horsham lead 2-0 at half time thanks to Ian Brown's brace but they then fell 3-2 behind with an awful second half display.

However, Richard Lowe's goal in the final quarter salvaged a point.

Mid Sussex shared a 1-1 draw with Folkestone.

Mids went 1-0 up after only five minutes from a short corner strike by Phil Middleton and they could have added to their tally with a couple more short corners.

Folkestone got more and more into the game and they levelled on 15 minutes, also from a short corner strike which just beat the defender on the line.

Middleton said: "We kept battling hard, which was to our credit as we really were struggling to string passes together on the bumpy pitch.

"Folkestone probably had the best of the chances to win the game, but we stuck with it and a point was probably fair."

Crawley moved off the bottom of the table after a 1-1 draw at Old Williamsonians.

The home took the lead on seven minutes and were then awarded a penalty stroke after Jamie Westwood was adjudged to have stopped the ball on the line with a foot. However, this was missed and it served as a wake up call for the young Crawley side.

Coach Terry Higgs had an effort cleared off the line before Kris Rai levelled from an acute angle.

Crawley could have won the match with a penalty of their own but Higgs was denied by a fine save.

There were also chances for Paul Sayers, Adrian Shuttleworth and Phil Butcher but they were not converted and it finished 1-1.

Higgs said: "I'm disappointed not to have won after all the chances that we created. We had 70 per cent of the second half play but to get a point away from home is fine and we are now undefeated in our last three games so the team is progressing well."

Crowborough claimed only their second win since promotion to Kent/Sussex Division One as they beat New Beccehamians 3-2 with goals from Darren Pulman (two) and captain Phil Newington.

Neil Cunningham hit the winner as Eastbourne beat Sutton Valence 4-3.

Chris Burden, Nick Corbett and David Morgan were also on target.

Middleton and Bognor's match at Maidstone was called off.

Chichester's reputation for playing in exiting and entertaining games continued with a 2-2 draw at last year's champions Maidenhead in the Southern Premier.

This time it was the opposition who scored a last minute penalty corner to secure a point and Chichester who rued the missed chances.

The first half was littered with free hits and corners and it was from a slipper corner that Henry Stremes linked with Neil Pendle to score the opener.

In the second half Chi's Oli Lane-Smith hit a post while Adam Beer also went close but it was Maidenhead who scored next to make it 1-1.

This promoted Chi into a sustained period of pressure which finally paid off when the excellent Stremes found Bryan Lock in the circle and he made no mistake.

The game should have finished tamely but with just seconds left the umpires failed to spot an infringement and the home side grabbed an equaliser from the resulting penalty corner.
