Newick's amazing Junior Cup run continued with a 7-6 win at Sheppey.

As at Bexley in the previous round, they had to come from behind for victory.

Skipper Liam Craig-Davies scored the crucial try with seven minutes to go, taking a pass from Steve Curtis after a sweeping move.

Craig-Davies then landed the conversion, but victory was also down to tremendous defence from the Sussex side.

The result sparked great celebrations back at village pub The Crown, the club's spiritual home.

Chairman Doug Alexander said: "We have never got this far before. The whole club is absolutely delighted."

Newick went down 25-5 to Hellingly in the Sussex Intermediate Shield on Sunday. Malcolm Fitzpatrick (2) and Matt Craig scored tries for the winners.

Heathfield have gone second in Sussex One after a 32-22 win at Sussex Police.

Their much-changed team ran in tries from backs Mike Hole, Will Drinkwater, Guy Woods, Julian Wates and Greg Hoskins with Louis Beale adding two conversions and a penalty.

Police were well adrift at one stage but launched a comeback with tries from Matthew Sole (2), Phil Nicholas and Finbar O'Donnell. Maurice Dando kicked a conversion.

Worthing gave their squad a run as they lost 29-20 to Basingstoke in a club match. The Sussex side were 15-0 up before ringing the changes.
