Paul Mundy-Castle piled up 48 points as Worthing Thunder blasted their way into the NBL Trophy semi-finals.

Thunder beat Coventry Crusaders 114-103 to set up a home clash with old rivals Plymouth on December 8.

Coventry were expected to provide a tough test but Worthing were in charge from the first quarter, when runs of 8-2 and 13-3 helped them open a 32-17 lead.

The advantage was cut to seven in the second quarter and eight in the closing stages but in between Thunder led by as many as 27 and never looked in real danger.

Sharp-shooting Mundy-Castle and Sean Hampton shared the limelight, passing 300 and 400 points for the season respectively in only 12 games, although there was also valuable work inside from Dwayne Martin and Gaylon Moore.

Mundy-Castle, who hit 15 of 21 two-pointers and three of six from longer range, said: "We need the big guys to free us up but when it comes together we are a fun team to watch.

"I've had 49 points before for Solent but this was very satisfying because it was a big game."

Thunder scorers: Mundy-Castle 48, Hampton 32, Moore 12, Martin 12, Addy 6, Brame 4.
