The tragic deaths of Timmy Barry and Janette Moss exactly a year ago brought a tear to the eye of our readers.

Timmy was out for the day with his Outreach worker, who was giving up her time to take the ten-year-old autistic child into Brighton, when he was swept away by a huge wave as he ran excitedly across the shingle.

It was clear from the inquest that 45-year-old Janette Moss, a mother of three, had done everything she could to save Timmy. She died trying to save him. Two families, both from Peacehaven, will never be the same.

The heart-rending story of a year without Timmy, written by his mother Emma and published here today, shows how bravely the Barry family has coped with the tragedy.

Now, partly thanks to readers, something of Timmy will continue for ever.

A playground is to be built in memory of Timmy at Hillside Special School, Portslade, where he was a pupil.

More than £10,000 has been raised through donations from friends, including £1,000 from one reader of The Argus.

The school will contribute £3,000 from its budget and the £13,000 will be matched pound by pound by Government grants.

It will ensure the name of Timmy Barry will always live on.
