The success of last year's Hitmaker-developed Virtua Tennis was a surprise for industry critics, Dreamcast owners and even Sega itself.

The game was a smash. So it is no surprise Virtua Tennis 2, to be released shortly, serves up more of the same.

The most obvious change is the inclusion of eight women players in a total of 16 internationally-ranked players.

Venus and Serena Williams are joined by well-known men, including Patrick Rafter and Britain's Tim Henman.

The graphics are stunning. The addition of women players means you can play mixed doubles, singles and doubles matches.

Virtua Tennis 2 also features a re-styled world circuit mode, which lets you create a player, train and compete in a host of tournaments, playing your way to world No. 1.

Although several new animations have been added to the game, including diving for the ball, they hardly affect gameplay, which uses the same control system as the original.

The controls are effective, helping you to pull off all kinds of drop shots, lobs and backhand smashes. Virtua Tennis 2 is not exactly a must-have title for gamers who own the original but everyone else should be courtside to take a look.

A worthy addition to Dreamcast's games collection.
