Sussex's James Kirtley faces a second review by the ECB panel investigating his bowling action.

The county's vice-captain was reported by the match referee for a suspect action while making his England debut in last month's one-day international series against Zimbabwe.

Under ICC procedures he underwent extensive scientific analysis earlier this month and the panel, chaired by David Acfield, yesterday "identified issues" which Kirtley will have to work on over the next four months under the guidance of ECB's bowling advisor Bob Cottam and Sussex coach Peter Moores.

His action will be reassessed before the start of the 2002 season when an updated report will be sent to the ICC.

Kirtley is not banned from playing for his country but if he is reported in international matches twice in the next year he faces an automatic 12-month suspension.

Kirtley has already been cleared for domestic cricket a year ago by the same panel after he was reported during England A's tour to New Zealand at the end of 1999.

Kirtley and Moores attended yesterday's hearing at Lord's and Moores expressed satisfaction with the outcome.

He said: "What's been decided is the sensible course of action. James will have to work on a couple of things but I'm pretty sure everything will be cleared up before next season.

"They are making sure that every angle is covered. If any changes are made to James's action they will make him a better bowler."
