One might well ask who will integrate city development (Letters, November l6). Brighton and Hove certainly needs someone with insight and vision to oversee some of the appalling decisions that seem to be the prerogative of the planning committee.

As well as the long list of sites mentioned by Allan Allbeury, he should also have included Brighton Marina.

Here was a site that started off with so much opportunity to show the world what a modern marina could be. What do we have now?

A higgledy-piggledy collection of buildings with no integrated design or architectural merit - the beached-whale roofs of the leisure centre and the odd brick building dotted here and there. Goodness knows what is going to be the end result of the Meccano-like structure that has recently sprung up.

In all, it's a disgrace. Quite clearly, no one expects our council members to know about design or architecture but do they never walk around Kemp Town or Brunswick? Do they never wonder how, in this day and age, we could provide as much visual pleasure as these elegant and beautiful places?
