A Sussex firm leading a campaign against the introduction of a European Directive on food supplements has enlisted a number of MPs and MEPs in the campaign.

Nigel Farage, MEP for the South-East, visited G&G Food Supplies of East Grinstead.

Mr Farage, a member of the national executive committee of the UK Independence Party, toured the factory to learn more about how the European Commission's proposed directive would effect the company.

He heard a list of vitamins and minerals that would be permitted in food would be reduced as would the number of food supplements on the market.

G&G's managing director, Jeremy Stephens, said: "These proposals could have a severe effect on us by reducing our product range. Many health food stores will lose a major part of their trade. Without the vitamins, minerals and herbs that can be bought now, but are likely to be banned for no good reason, they may find it hard to make a living."
