Education minister Stephen Timms will open a £1 million school extension in Rottingdean tomorrow.
The new wing at Longhill High School incorporates six classrooms, a drama studio, music practice rooms and offices.
It was needed to enable the school to continue to take children from the local area.
Head teacher Geoff Ellis said: "The new building has made a big difference to the school. The classrooms are used by the geography department and for English.
"The new drama studio means we no longer use the dance studio for drama, which is certainly a big improvement."
Councillor Frieda Warman-Brown said: "This scheme demonstrates the commitment of Brighton and Hove City Council to new buildings and refurbishment to enhance local education."
Mr Timms will also visit Rudyard Kipling Primary School in Woodingdean and East Brighton College of Media Arts.
Rudyard Kipling, once a failing school, has been turned around, while East Brighton is also improving.
