A first League win of the season for Albion's reserves has been marred by a double injury blow.
Skipper Paul Rogers and summer signing Geoff Pitcher were both hurt in the early stages of yesterday's 2-0 Combination victory against Colchester at Layer Road.
Rogers suffered a dead leg and had to be replaced after 25 minutes by youngster Dean Hammond.
Pitcher lasted only ten minutes before sustaining a recurrence of wrist damage when he was trampled in a challenge.
The former Kingstonian playmaker has a pin in the wrist, the legacy of an injury earlier in his career.
He was taken to a local hospital, but the wait for X-rays was too long so further checks will be needed to confirm the extent of the damage.
Pitcher's replacement Chris McPhee provided a cross which Hammond set up for Steve Melton to drive the Seagulls into a 34th minute lead from the edge of the box.
The points were secured in the 53rd minute when Shaun Wilkinson's cross from a short corner routine was headed in by Scott Ramsay.
It was Ramsay's first goal since returning from a three-month loan spell with Yeovil.
Albion Reserves: Packham; Pethick, Crosby, Wicks, Wilkinson, Pitcher, Melton, Rogers, Brooker, Lehmann, Ramsay. Subs: McPhee for Pitcher (injured 10), Hammond for Rogers (injured 25), Virgo, Jackson, Sansom.
