I was delighted to read (The Argus, October 29) about Nora Potter the 89-year-old Sussex businesswoman who helped launch the Federation of Sussex Industries (FSI) just after the Second World War, which later became the business support organisation Sussex Enterprise.

As a former member of the FSI and a current employee of Sussex Enterprise, I remember meeting Mrs Potter many years ago and was impressed by her business knowledge and forthright attitude.

Many of my colleagues also remember her positive influence on the Sussex business community.

Mrs Potter will be pleased to know Sussex Enterprise still helps Sussex companies with exporting.

There is a great deal of activity in this area and we are currently working with hundreds of businesses that want to find new markets abroad or develop their existing export capabilities.

The Sussex Enterprise export team provides a number, which include export documentation, tailored market information reports and translation services.

We have also organised six trade missions to 11 countries during 2000-2001.

More than £3 million was won as a result of the missions with a further £8 million worth of orders expected over the next two years.

I am proud to say Sussex Enterprise is continuing to develop Sussex businesses as a result of the work Nora Potter pioneered all those years ago.
