Peter Taylor is asking for another fast start from Albion tomorrow as they try to stretch a remarkable home record.

They scored within seven minutes and were 3-0 up inside half-an-hour in Taylor's first match in charge against Oldham six days ago.

More of the same please is the message from the manager against Colchester, who are seeking to end an unbeaten 24-match Saturday sequence for the Seagulls dating back to January 2000.

"We need to start the way we started last Saturday and perform as positively as that," said Taylor. "It's our ground and we have to make sure teams need to perform brilliantly to get anything off us.

"It's very handy if you can start well and score early. It gives the opposition a problem straight away.

"That is exactly what we did against Oldham and at Notts County on Tuesday as well I liked the way we started and we really should have scored."

A 14th Withdean win out of 15 would take Albion back to the top of the table if Brentford are beaten at Reading.

Taylor is likely to stick with the starting line-up and 4-4-2 formation for the 2-2 draw in Nottingham, although the recovery from 2-0 down came once he had made changes.

That would mean Charlie Oatway captaining the side again with Paul Rogers on the bench.

"I have been pleased with the way the team has played, that is the most important thing," he said. "I would have been very disappointed if we had got nothing out of Notts County considering the way we performed.

"Two defensive mistakes cost us goals, but apart from that our general play was very good. The players look comfortable with 4-4-2 and I am. We know about the other systems as well and if now and again we need to change it I'm sure we will."

Colchester are eighth on the strength of their impressive home form. They have lost five of their seven away matches but Taylor is wary of the talent they possess, particularly in the shape of the younger sibling of his former captain at Leicester.

"I am looking forward to seeing Muzzy Izzet's brother (Kemal), who is a good footballer," Taylor said. "I tried to get him fixed up with Gillingham, Colchester and Southend when he was a trainee at Southend. He reminds me of Muzzy, very skilful and slight.

"I know the club well and Steve Whitton has produced a very good team this season.

"Their results have gone off a touch, but I am sure they have the characters to bounce back. We've got to make sure that doesn't happen against us and that we get the three points."

Former Albion defender Darren Carr has signed for Dover.
