Hundreds of noisy herring gulls are in for a nasty wake-up call after residents declared war on the feathered pests.

Rustington residents have spent months dodging the dive-bombing birds and being woken at 3am by the sounds of screeching and little feet scampering overhead.

They plan to turn the tables by playing tapes of bird alarm calls in the hope they might scare them away. Now it's the gulls' turn to suffer a few sleepless nights.
