Eastbourne Borough striker Matt Allen put a nightmare first half behind him to score the goal that sent fourth placed Rothwell to a 1-0 eastern division defeat at Priory Lane.

Allen missed two chances in the opening seven minutes.

But, in the 52nd minute, the pacy striker seized on a half-chance to score the game's only goal. Matt Smart's scuffed shot was laid off by Daren Pearce and Allen fired home.

Borough were pinned back after the interval but they remained firm under pressure and regained control with John Westcott having an effort ruled out for offside before Clinton More was denied by a save from John Hughes.

Borough manger Garry Wilson said: "We missed the easy chances but took the half chance.

"I was pleased with our second successive clean sheet after recent defensive lapses in concentration at home. They are starting to listen to me."

St Leonard's manager Micky Taylor marked his return from hospital after back trouble with a fine 2-1 victory over Sittingbourne at The Firs.

Taylor's last game in charge was a 6-2 win against Dartford, but three defeats and an FA Cup exit followed in his absence.

Dave Fisher gave Sittingbourne a deserved first-half lead with a powerful header.

Taylor and new assistant Chick Baines found the right words at half-time and Danny Moody headed the equaliser from a corner.

Danny Fletcher netted the winner following a solo run and an angled drive 15 minutes from time.
