Albion shrugged off Micky Adams' move to Leicester with a fine away win against one of their promotion rivals.

Goals in each half by Bobby Zamora and the recalled Gary Hart got assistant Bob Booker's caretaker reign off to a flying start.

Kenny Irons pulled a goal back for Huddersfield on 74 minutes to set up a tense finale, but the Seagulls held on for their first victory in four games.

Booker, assisted by director of youth Martin Hinshelwood, restored Hart and Lee Steele to the starting line-up, relegating captain Paul Rogers and Nathan Jones to the bench.

The return to a 4-4-2 system paid off handsomely as the Seagulls stunned a crowd of 10,727 at the McAlpine Stadium by taking a deserved 35th minute lead.

Zamora raced on to a Paul Watson pass to crack in his ninth of the season and fourth in as many away matches.

Albion survived early second half pressure to double their advantage on 64 minutes, Hart scoring his first goal since March 31 with a right-foot drive from 20 yards.

Irons gave Huddersfield hope with a free-kick from 25 yards on 74 minutes, but the Seagulls were not to be denied.

Zamora is already rated at over £2 million by chairman Dick Knight. This latest spectacular strike will add to his value amid fears that Adams will now try to encourage Dave Bassett to lure him to Leicester.

Knight has drawn up a shortlist of four leading contenders from 50 serious applicants to succeed Adams.

The chairman has also revealed that the jobs of Booker and the rest of the backroom staff are safe.

Albion's eighth boss in eight years could be in place before next Saturday's home game against Oldham, but Booker and Hinshelwood are expected to still be in charge for Tuesday's LDV Vans Trophy trip to Swansea.
