Campaigners have accused a council of miscalculating the cost of scrapping plans for a new library.
Lewes Library Friends challenged East Sussex County Council on its decision to ditch plans for a new town library, questioning whether it was clear on the costs of abandoning the £2 million proposal.
They suggested the cost of improving facilities at the existing library in Albion Street could eventually outweigh the cost of providing a new library.
A meeting last Friday heard it could cost up to £175,000 to provide disabled access to the existing library.
In July the council admitted it could not pay for the new library after discovering a £3.7 million shortfall in its budget, but a final decision will not be taken until February.
