Veteran lock Malcom Ede provided one of the bright spots from a tough afternoon for Brighton last Saturday.
The 41-year-old was pitched into the second row alongside Simon Peters and had a great game.
Coach Bert Merritt admitted things had not gone to plan as his side surrendered an 8-3 lead and lost 11-8 at home to Heathfield in the Intermediate Cup.
The lineout was one facet of their play that worked reasonably well, with Ede producing most of their best work.
One his most impressive takes was off a Heathfield throw deep inside his own 22 when Brighton were clinging to their five-point lead midway through the second half.
Merritt said: "Malcolm did well for us in trial games and I thought he did well last week."
The Waterhall chief was promoting Sean Trotter from the IIs to partner Ede against Charlton Park today after admitting the experiment of playing Peters at lock had not really worked.
