Paul Halpin is planning to resurrect his career at a new weight once boxing bosses give him the all-clear to return to the ring.

The unbeaten Hove fighter has been in limbo because of recurring blood problems.

A low platelet count, the particles crucial to blood clotting, caused the British Boxing Board of Control to suspend Halpin's licence.

"The latest results are clear, but the Board are not sitting until October 2 to give their final verdict," said Halpin.

"I am going up a weight to super-featherweight now and I want to fight Michael Gomez."

Halpin, undefeated as a featherweight, has been promised two fights before Christmas by promoter Frank Warren.

He leaves next Thursday for a fortnight's training in Lanzarote.

Meanwhile, Audley Harrison goes into his second professional fight tonight confident that the experience of Sydney has prepared him fully for the big stage.

The Olympic super heavyweight champion faces Scot Derek McCafferty at Newcastle's Telewest Arena and Harrison is focused on the task which lies ahead.

"You look at a situation and you look at a demand and you say 'Well, have I got the ability to deal with that demand?' and that's how you reduce the stress of it," he said.
