I urge the UK Government to exercise the utmost possible restraint in any joint action with the US.

I am completely against anything resembling a declaration of war against any state. I am deeply saddened by the loss of life and the resultant trauma in the US, all the more so because I have a brother who lives in Manhattan. But I want to see no more loss of innocent life and alienation, Many people whom I know in Brighton and around the country agree on this - simple vengeful violence is not the answer.

Forging a positive relationship between the West and traditional Islam is the single most important issue in world affairs today. This is an immensely challenging task that may take a long time but our response now will play a key part in creating some sort of positive potential.
