Three people died and six were injured in Bank Holiday mayhem on Sussex roads.

Four of the crashes involved motorcyclists and Sussex Police say they will see if lessons can be learned to prevent future tragedies.

One crash yesterday killed a 17-year-old Lancing boy.

He and a friend, riding silver and black motorbikes, had just left the eastbound A27 at the Holmbush turn-off when the accident happened at 3.50pm.

Police said the rider lost control of his 125cc machine at the top of the slip road and collided with a post.

The crash came three hours after a 52-year-old man from Hampshire died when his Kawasaki 900cc machine collided with a Ford Focus at Funtington, near Chichester.

Two men in the Ford, both from London, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The third fatal crash happened on the Saddlescombe road near Devil's Dyke.

A 55-year-old Surrey man died when his Yamaha motorbike was involved in a crash with a car driven by a 52-year-old Brighton woman. She was taken to hospital with shock and slight injuries.

Two men from Wadhurst were injured when their car hit a tree in the garden of a house at Heathfield on Friday night.

And on Saturday afternoon a 31-year-old Littlehampton man suffered a fractured leg and wrist when his motorbike collided with a central reservation on the A27 at Worthing.

Sussex Police spokesman Chris Oswick said: "Motorcycle accidents have been a cause of concern for some time and we have been targeting the middle-aged rider in particular.

"This weekend tragically highlighted the dangers and we shall be looking at the accidents to see if we can further reduce the risks."
