Hastings Town striker Paul Jones scored in the dying minutes to earn his side a 1-0 win over visiting Eastbourne Borough in the eastern division.

Jones fired past keeper Dean Lightwood from the edge of the box in the 89th minute after he was set-up by Danny Simmonds.

George Wakeling's side remain unbeaten but the scoreline was harsh on the visitors who controlled long periods of the game and created more chances.

An evenly matched contest saw Dave Adams, Steve Williard and Matt Crab all go close for Borough while the home side relied primarily upon Simmonds' long throws to create opportunities.

Town's best move came in the 54th minute when Steve Yates picked out Duncan McArthur, who brought a good save out of Lightwood from 20 yards.

The second half was more eventful for the 551-strong crowd but the game looked to be heading for a draw until Jones produced a piece of rare quality.

Tony Reid scored the only goal after just nine minutes as St Leonards won 1-0 at Ashford Town.

Simon Fox was the creator with a fine through ball. Ashford hit the post after the break and later had Jay Westwood sent off
