Action, escapism and more is included in this Jurassic Park software title.

Dino Defender from Knowledge Adventure is a re-make of the film where savage dinosaurs run wild in an enclosure.

As a member of the emergency team, the player is expected to play his part in the greatest dinosaur round-up ever.

Having installed the software and pressed all the buttons a few times, I was soon ready to play - but what a disappointment.

Frankly, the software was a huge let-down after the hype and excitement of the film.

The dinosaurs didn't look anywhere near so menacing when viewed through a 15-inch monitor and the atmosphere didn't come across at all.

The real disappointment was the comic book-like graphics that relied on a lot of bright red, unrealistic-looking blood and green reptilian bodies to convey a sense of horror.

This didn't do it for me, although I squeaked in terror like everyone else when I saw the film.

The Dino Defender storyline is horribly weak. But then the film was not exactly a masterful demonstration of the scriptwriter's craft.

Probably the best part of this game is the opening sequence where film clips are used to set the scene. The rest is almost unbelievably naff.

The game claims to be suitable for eight-year-olds but I don't think the developers have a clue what their audience really wants.

Forget the fake blood and the grisly graphics. What kids want is a proper, well-written story and this dismal title fails to deliver.
