Albion have parted company with out-of-favour centre half Darren Carr.

The big stopper has left by mutual consent after reaching a settlement for the rest of his contract.

Manager Micky Adams revealed: "He had another year left, but we have come to a financial agreement for him to cease being our player and he has now left the club.

"He was one of my signings and it is always sad when players don't fit into your plans.

"Perhaps he is not the player I thought he was. He had a lot of injuries which disrupted his career.

"We never saw the best of him, but we wish him all the best."

Carr, 33 next month, joined Albion from Gillingham for £25,000 two summers ago.

He started fewer than half of the matches in an injury-plagued debut season with the Seagulls and was loaned out to Rotherham, Lincoln and Carlisle last term.

Carr's final appearance for the club was in the 2-1 home win against Rochdale a year ago.

Meanwhile, Albion are virtually resigned to skipper Paul Rogers receiving a one-match suspension following his controversial red card at Cambridge on Saturday.

Adams said: "There is no right of appeal if you are sent off for two bookable offences.

"You can only appeal if you are sent off for violent conduct or mistaken identity."

Rogers' second caution was for a foul on Ian Ashbee, although Rogers claims the damage was done by one of Ashbee's Cambridge colleagues.

Albion could theoretically argue against it on the grounds of mistaken identity but the wording is supposed to relate to team-mates rather than an opponent.

Dirk Lehmann missed training yesterday with a bruised knee which cut short his debut at Cambridge, but Adams expects him to be fit for Saturday's home game against Wigan.

Tickets went on sale yesterday for the Withdean clash against Blackpool on Bank Holiday Monday April 27 (3pm).
