I think W Rumsey (Letters, August 9) is missing the point. Taxi drivers are running a business.
We are out there to make a living and are not part of social services.
If W Rumsey is so concerned about the old folk, there are plenty of voluntary organisations that help the aged.
Taxi drivers risk being stabbed, robbed and having drunken passengers being rude, swearing, throwing up and even wetting themselves in our cabs.
All we want from the job is to make a decent living. I am proud to say I have been a Brighton taxi driver for more than 12 years and I have met some very nice and interesting people but the attitude of the general public never ceases to amaze me.
As for not tipping taxi drivers in the future from the attitude of W Rumsey's letter I would be surprised if he or she had ever tipped in the first place.
