The race for the Sussex League title looks set to go to the wire. Hastings lead Horsham by just six points and both teams have four games remaining after winning on Saturday.

The Hastings players were able to attend the wedding reception of colleague James Chaplin after beating Chichester by nine wickets at Horntye Park. They put their opponents in and bowled them out for 139 in just 47.5 overs as John Morgan took 6-33. Top scorer for the visitors was Tim Hillier with 45.

Michael Yardy, taking advantage of a day off from Sussex duties, hit 81 and 17-year-old John Snashall made 54 not out to take Hastings to 140-1.

It was much closer for Horsham, winners by just one wicket in a nail- biting finish at Three Bridges after they had dismissed the home side for 210.

In that total, Phil Stanbridge hit 63 and Tom Mole made 41 as Carl Hopkinson took 5-48 and Mark Nash 4- 82.

It was all hands to the pumps for a Horsham side that normally bats in depth and 49 from Chris Nash and 41 from Luke Marshall helped them home after David Hussey had made 30 and Will House 36. Nick Creed took 4-38 and Danny Alderman 2-35.

Crowborough have moved into third place after the shortest game of the season at home to Eastbourne.

On a damp pitch the visitors tumbled to 56 all out as Naeem Akhtar took 5-14 and Andy Cornford 2-20.

Danny Foden, with 21 not out, led Crowborough home at 57- 4 with two wickets each from John Lord and Paul Hacker.

Worthing have banished any lingering relegation worries with a second win in successive weeks against clubs below them, this time beating East Grinstead by ten wickets after dismissing them for just 86.

Steve Greig hit 35 not out for Grinstead to prevent total embarrassment as Danny Barton returned figures of 7-24 on a pitch affected by overnight rain under the covers.

Sussex youngster Dominic Clapp then hit 53 not out and Tim Dunn made an unbeaten 23 to steer their club home at 87-0 Brighton and Hove owed much to a match-winning innings of 71 from 17 year-old Robert Wakeford, his best ever League score, in their 24-run win at Haywards Heath. He helped Brighton to 211 all out as Paul Havell took 6-72 and Tim Cruickshank 4-56, Stephen Ades added stability at a vital time with 40.

The home side were then dismissed for 183, acting captain Cruickshank making 33 and Jamie Carpenter 30. Brighton Andy Sartor took 5 -46 and Richard Spink 4-42 for Brighton.
