May I enquire after one Jimmy Langley who I believe played left back for the Brighton and Hove Albion in the Fifties? Jimmy also played, if my memory serves me well, in an England "B" team.
On entering the field, he would go straight to the goal posts and tap them two or three times with his boots - but that is not the real reason I am writing. Jimmy was in many ways a gentleman, a perfect role model for the young people of today. Whenever he passed us on his way to training, he would make a point of acknowledging us with a cheery "Morning, lads".
We, as a group, really respected the chunky fellow with his short haircut - nothing fancy, what you saw you got, a 90-minute player. As a result, in our eyes, today's footballers have a lot to learn.
