About 1,500 homes were without electricity for up to an hour and a half last night.

Seeboard said it was alerted to a problem in the Southwick area just after 7.30pm but a spokesman was unable to confirm the nature of the fault.

Further work on the supply was needed although it was believed all properties had their power restored by 9.10pm.

Southwick resident Roger Best said he tried to find out the cause of the power cut from his electricity supplier for more than an hour after the lights went out but today still did not know.
