The Legendary Polowski Diamond Heist will be showing at the Edinburgh Festival thanks to the backing of a Brighton gallery.

Art Republic in Bond Street is celebrating the expansion of the business and a new name by sponsoring comic actors Phil Brown and Gareth Tunley.

The gallery was founded five years ago by Lawrence Alkin, who has now changed the name from In the Frame to Art Republic to reflect the nature of the business.

The gallery's web site is now one of the most comprehensive of its type in the world with biographies and paintings of thousands of artist.

The sponsored show starts at one of the festival's leading venues, The Pleasance, tomorrow and runs for the month.

Mr Brown said: "There is no doubt about it, without the support of Art Republic we wouldn't be appearing at such a good venue.

"We have appeared at the festival before but not for the whole run and not in such a good theatre."

The Legendary Polowski Diamond Heist was written and produced by the two men, who have played at the Komedia in Gardner Street to packed houses.

An appearance at the Edinburgh Festival is likely to give them national coverage as the performance will be covered on Channel Four.

Mr Alkin said: "The gallery deals with high quality reproductions of art from the world's museums and galleries and we wanted to demonstrate our commitment to all forms of art and this seemed like a good way of doing it.

"It will make people aware of Art Republic and its online business."
