Brighton Bears are in talks with point guard Mark Jackson as they build for the new BBL season.

The vastly experienced 25-year-old from Southampton made his league debut back in 1992.

He has played for Solent and Thames Valley, with whom he was a Championship runner-up two years ago.

Club owner Romek Kriwald also expects Dave Wahl, runner-up in last year's player-of-the-season poll, to rejoin Brighton ahead of the new campaign, which starts at the end of September.

Kriwald is still negotiating with a mystery investor. Talks took place in France recently and the would-be backer has since visited Brighton.

Kriwald, who has come under fire from fans impatient for news, said: "I have got my eye on a coach and players but we need to have the foundations in place and know what the budget is.

"The time will come when something will have to be done but I am not in that situation yet.

"I am not going to panic in mid-July. If I did that we would have the same sort of season as in the last couple of years.

"I want to re-arrange things for the long term future. I want an office in Brighton and possibly a full-time coach based in Brighton.

"There are things which come before assembling a squad and I will hold out for as long as it takes."

Kriwald, who is keen to add BBL experience to his roster, added: "There are key names one might like to have who have not been taken yet."

Jackson is among them. Kriwald revealed: "I have had contact from Mark. He is English, which is important, and can defend as well as score so he could be a very useful player on the roster.

"I am trying to keep as many openings available as possible so a new coach can come in and do good job.

"Dave Wahl wants to come back and I think there is a prospective coach or two who would want him."

Although Demetric Reese and Kevin Wallace are highly unlikely to return, the only confirmed departure for the time being is young Daniel Midgeley, who is going to study in the United States.

Bears expect to enter pre-season tournaments at Thames Valley and Milton Keynes. Kriwald will also approach Worthing Thunder for a friendly.
