As one of the many agencies involved in trying to combat graffiti in the city centre, my approval of Josh Howard, who has applied graffiti to the Prince Albert pub (Argus, July 15), may surprise some.
I think I can speak for all the partners involved in the anti-graffiti strategy when I say we have absolutely no opinion whatsoever about the value of graffiti as an art form and our attempts to eradicate it are nothing to do with censoring freedom of expression.
The difference between Josh and the offender Richard Jay, who is also mentioned in the article, is that Josh carries out his work with the permission of the owner.
This permission is the difference between committing a crime and a work of art.
