I remind Councillor Ken Bodfish he was elected to serve the interests of his constituents.
Two years ago, there was a referendum on the community stadium. The response was 68 per cent in favour overall, with every single ward in Brighton and Hove backing the proposal for a stadium at Falmer.
Prior to the referendum, extensive research was undertaken into every possible site for a community stadium within the boundaries of Brighton and Hove, with the result that Falmer was the only viable position.
For Coun Bodfish to now suggest Waterhall might be suitable just serves to highlight his lack of knowledge and understanding of the situation.
Waterhall is not only unworkable from an infrastructural perspective but also would be totally unacceptable to local, regional and national interests.
The timing of Coun Bodfish's statement leads me to conclude he has determined his best opportunity of securing the mayoral title next year would be to take an opposing view to Lord Bassam on every major topic of debate.
Sadly, reality is somewhat different and Coun Bodfish seems intent on political suicide as failure to back Falmer is a failure to follow the democratic wishes of the electorate of Brighton and Hove.
The results of such actions will be witnessed next year.
