This is our worst fear being realised. The Sea Life Centre is threatening to reduce its investments because of the new parking scheme (Argus, July 13).

The Sea Life Centre is one of Brighton's foremost attractions. How many other smaller businesses are beginning to re-examine their future investments?

The Strategic Rail Authority forecasts a decent rail service will not be available for 15 years. Brighton and Hove's tourist industry will fail without many of its customers arriving by car.

Brighton and Hove City Council's foolish rush for quick income with the new parking restrictions may be a disaster for tourism.

Tourism is vibrant, employing thousands of local people and bringing wealth to the city. Most tourists arrive by car. We do not need these parking restrictions.

We need to maintain employment. We need economic regeneration, a return of the thousand parking spaces lost this past year, another thousand spaces added, a park-and-ride scheme and confidence re-instilled in businesses such as the Sea Life Centre.
