Crawley Town boss Billy Smith has added exciting striker Steve Restarick to his ranks for next season.

Restarick, who played for Reds a few seasons ago, has joined the club from Welling United.

The 28-year-old former Dover and Chelmsford marksman is sure to be a popular signing among the Broadfield Stadium faithful.

Smith said: "I'm so glad we've got Steve on board. He always scores goals, a real poacher.

"It's good that we've taken him from right under Welling's noses. I now have a very good attacking line-up."

Reds kick-off their pre-season programme next Saturday at Canvey Island and Smith cannot wait to see his charges in action.

Smith said: "I've been so impressed by the players in training. Warren Waugh, one of the new lads, has looked particularly sharp.

"We're going to make a fist of things this year that's for sure."

Reds will be keen to push into the Conference before there is a big shake-up of the non-league game.

The FA have given their blessing to the Conference to have only two feeders from the season 2003-04.

No Ryman League clubs will be promoted to the Conference from that season as the three feeder divisions (Dr Martens, Ryman and Unibond) split into only two feeders.

Dr Martens League is sure to be swelled by a number of sides coming across from the Ryman.

Smith said: "It'd be great if we could by-pass all that and get into the Conference before that happens.

"I think the shake-up is needed. It's about time."

Dean Wordsworth will miss the first two games of the season through suspension, while Luke Anderson could be away for the first ten days playing for Great Britain at the World Youth Games.

The supporters' club are running a coach to Canvey Island, leaving the stadium at 12.30pm. Cost is £5 for members, £7.50 for associate members and £10 for others. Call Alan Harper on 01293 511764 to book your seat.

In other news, midfielder Justin Harris has re-signed for Sussex Senior Cup holders Lewes.
