Among the many links between Albion and Swindon Town are a number of strikers.

They include Brian Wade, whose Albion career was short yet significant.

Wade played 60 League games for Swindon, helping them to the old Fourth Division title in 1986, but he arrived at The Goldstone in 1980 via a short spell at Haverfordwest.

After being initially sidelined by a hamstring injury, Wade scored on his full debut for Albion at Wolverhampton but his most significant moment came in his second appearance, at home to Newcastle United.

Wade scored all four goals as Albion romped to a 4-2 win, the first Albion player to claim such a haul since Peter Ward 14 years earlier.

Sadly, Wade was unable to hold down a regular starting place and he was released following Albion's relegation to the new Second Division in May 1992.

Other strikers to have played for both sides include Ken Beamish, Garry Nelson, Ray Clarke, Craig Maskell and Ian Muir.

Beamish went on to manage Swindon for a short period.

Other recent names on a lengthy list of links include Andy Rollings, Ray McHale, Chris Ramsey, Kieran O'Regan and Ian Culverhouse.

Albion twice defeated Swindon Town 4-0 at the Goldstone. In November 1976, Ian Mellor (2), Ward and Rollings were the marksmen in an emphatic victory. Twenty-four years earlier Billy Reed (2), Ray Garbutt and Ken Bennett had been on target in a similar success.

Swindon's greatest moment came in 1969 when they beat Arsenal 3-1 after extra time to win the League Cup. Don Rogers, who went on to play for Crystal Palace, scored twice that day.
