Dame Flora Robson and Emlyn Williams were in a film classic that never was.
The picture shows two of the stars, Charles Laughton and Merle Oberon, with director Josef Von Sternberg.
The film was heavily jinxed from the start. Scenery would smash, stage hands broke limbs, Laughton just could not find his character and, when he did, he said: "Of course, it's George VI."
The film was finally abandoned when Merle Oberon was hurled through the windscreen of her chauffeur-driven car.
A great pity. I saw some of the rushes and they were superb.
