FireWire is the ultra-fast computer technology, originally developed by Apple, that has become the official IEEE 1394 industry standard.

It offers incredible data transfer speeds of up to 400Mbps and has a bandwidth almost 30 times greater than USB.

This makes it ideal for transferring extremely large data and graphics files.

The Belkin FireWire 6-port hub allows PC and Mac users to add six further FireWire ports to their computer.

The space-saving hub stands vertically with one port located at the front and five at the rear allowing users to hot swap Zip, optical or disk drives, scanners, digital cameras and other computer peripherals.

It can be used on its own or docked with additional hubs, enabling users to connect up to 63 FireWire devices to their computer.

Performance is always startling when using Fire-Wire so it is hard to tell if the Belkin hub was speeding up the data transfer process or not.

What is certain is that the Belkin hub makes it a lot easier to connect loads of peripheral FireWire devices, such as a digital camera, scanner, or disc drives to a computer.

The Belkin unit did not require any installation other than plugging in the devices. Everything was completely automatic and worked without a hitch.

Devices could be detached and re-attached without rebooting the computer.

The whole FireWire process was a lot easier than anything before and I am already looking to replace some of my older technology with FireWire-compliant items.
