Police are trying to trace the girlfriend of Cal Erlam, who was found dead from a knife wound at his basement flat.

Mr Erlam, 29, was discovered semi-naked in a pool of blood at his flat in Milner Road, Brighton.

The weapon had punctured his chest but police are not sure whether it was murder, self-inflicted or an accidental stabbing.

Detectives appealed for witnesses or anyone with information about Mr Erlam's movements to come forward.

Acting Detective Chief Inspector, Vic Marshall, said last week: "We are treating the death as suspicious but we are keeping an open mind."

Police are now appealing for information about Mr Erlam's girlfriend, who, it is believed, is called Melissa, Emma or Lara.

A friend of Mr Erlam said he believed Mr Erlam had suffered from mental health problems which were being treated with medication.

Officers were called to Mr Erlam's flat on Monday night last week. Worried neighbours had not seen him for some time and raised the alarm.

A post mortem by a Home Office pathologist found he died from a single stab wound to the chest.

Anyone with any information should telephone CID at Brighton on 0845 6070999.
